Technical Director
The Global Steel Climate Council® (GSCC®) is hiring a Technical Director to oversee the technical implementation of the Steel Climate Standard and to represent the GSCC® in international standards and life-cycle analysis committees. The Technical Director works collaboratively with the Executive Director and GSCC® members to enhance the Standard’s effectiveness towards meeting the Net Zero by 2050 goal through emissions reduction in the steel industry. The position works remotely. Salary and benefits are established commensurate with experience.
The GSCC® is a non-profit, global association organized to advance climate strategy by establishing standards and advocating for carbon emissions reduction by members of the steel industry. Our mission is to lead the way toward a truly effective low-emissions steel standard for all producers that accurately counts carbon emissions and support’s the industry’s achievement of a Net Zero by 2050 goal.
Responsibilities
- Point of contact and collaborator with the GSCC®’s external technical consultant on all aspects of implementation of the Standard;
- Staff coordinator for the GSCC® Technical Committee, providing strategic guidance on implementation of the Standard, managing the Committee’s various work streams, overseeing the certification process and ensuring the Executive Director is fully informed of progress;
- Point of contact for GSCC® members that require guidance and support on the implementation of the Standard within their companies;
- Reviewer of GSCC® members’ Corporate Average Steel Emissions Intensity (CASEI), Science-Based Emissions Targets (SBETs) and product emissions submissions for certification;
- Representative to Worldsteel Association’s Lifecycle Analysis Working Group, national standards organizations’ committees, ISO committees and other international standards-setting and lifecycle analysis committees;
- Occasional spokesperson for the GSCC® on technical matters, such as at conferences and in front of the media;
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field, such as materials sciences, chemistry, engineering, environmental systems, econometrics, etc.
- At least 2-4 years of experience in lifecycle analysis, carbon measurement/accounting, steel/metals, sustainability, standards-setting or other related field;
- Be comfortable working remotely but able to communicate, collaborate, work productively and hold oneself accountable to achieving tasks;
- Be comfortable with public speaking;
- Be available for domestic and international travel approximately 5-10% of the year;
The GSCC® is an Equal Opportunity Employer, with no room for discrimination of any kind.
