GSCC Certifies Romanian Company Artrom Steel Tube S.A.’s Corporate Average Steel Emissions Intensity (CASEI) and Science-Based Emission Reduction Targets (SBET)
GSCC has certified Artrom Steel Tubes S.A.’s Corporate Average Steel Emissions Intensity (CASEI) and Science-Based Emission Reduction Targets (SBET), marking continued momentum for independently verified steel decarbonization progress in Europe.
Today, the Global Steel Climate Council (GSCC) announces the certification of Artrom Steel Tubes S.A.’s Corporate Average Steel Emissions Intensity (CASEI) and Science-Based Emissions Target (SBET). Artrom’s certification continues GSCC’s momentum in advancing measurable progress and stewardship in decarbonization across Europe.
“Artrom Steel Tubes exemplifies the kind of bold, measurable action our industry needs. Operating on 100% certified green electricity and producing steel entirely from recycled scrap, Artrom did not wait to be told what sustainable steelmaking looks like. They built it into their operations from the ground up. Their certification under the Steel Climate Standard adds to a growing wave of steelmakers proving that rigorous, independently verified climate action is not only achievable, it is accelerating. Across our certified membership, nearly 3 million metric tons of CO₂e have already been eliminated. That is not aspirational. It is audited, transparent, and growing. Congratulations to the Artrom team on earning this recognition.” Adina Renee Adler, Executive Director, GSCC
Artrom’s CASEI and SBET were third-party verified by Rina Services S.p.A. Artrom calculated a base value of 0.728 metric tons of CO₂e per metric ton of hot-rolled steel in 2024. The company set an interim target of 0.68 metric tons of CO₂e per metric ton of hot-rolled steel by 2030 and committed to a long-term target of 0.12 metric tons of CO₂e per metric ton of hot-rolled steel by 2050. These targets align with the GSCC Steel Climate Standard and demonstrate the company’s commitment to measurable and data-driven progress.
“Artrom Steel Tubes is committed to producing low-carbon steel in a sustainable manner, which is the core of our strategy. We are convinced that less polluting materials, including steel, will form the basis of future market demand. Our business model is based on innovation, advanced technologies and continuous investment, while maximizing the use of recycled materials and minimizing the impact on the environment. We aim not only to reduce our carbon footprint, but also to create a positive impact on our community. Through our neutrality plan, we systematically and gradually reduce emissions over time, aiming to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and any residual emissions that cannot be eliminated will be offset by additional carbon mitigation measures.
GSCC certification provides a pragmatic, transparent and scientifically sound framework for measuring and reporting emissions. By adopting GSCC certification, we ensure that our emissions are accurately calculated, that our reduction efforts are credible, and that our products meet internationally recognized standards for low-emission steel.” Christian Drinciu, Chief Executive Officer, Artrom Steel Tubes, S.A.
Adopted in August 2023, the GSCC Steel Climate Standard is a global benchmark for measuring and reporting steel carbon emissions. It provides a science-based framework for members to obtain third-party certification of facility-specific emissions intensity and to conduct annual self-audits to demonstrate ongoing decarbonization progress and to help prevent the worst impacts of climate change. The Steel Climate Standard supports the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
