GSCC Certifies Low Emission Hot Rolled Steel Tubes from Romania-Based Artrom Steel Tubes S.A.
GSCC has certified Artrom Steel Tubes S.A.'s low-emission hot rolled steel tubes, making it the organization's fourth member to receive product-level certification and bringing the total number of GSCC-certified steel products to 23.
This month, the Global Steel Climate Council (GSCC) announced product certification for Romania-based producer Artrom Steel Tubes S.A. This makes Artrom the fourth member company to receive GSCC product-level certification. This brings GSCC’s total certified products to 23.
The emissions intensity of 0.73 tonnes of CO₂e per tonne of hot rolled steel tubes produced by Artrom’s sole facility in Slatina, Romania, was independently verified by GSCC-approved certification body Rina Services S.p.A., which ensured that Artrom’s product met the strict emission intensity guidelines established by the Steel Climate Standard. This certification highlights both GSCC’s and Artrom’s commitment to transparency and accountability between producers and consumers. By investing in this certification, Artrom is giving its customers verification they can trust, assuring customers that their purchase is supporting a company that manufactures steel products while remaining environmentally conscious.
“We are pleased to certify Artrom Steel’s hot-rolled steel tubes built with 100% certified green electricity and made entirely from recycled scrap. The company is an established leader in European sustainable steelmaking, demonstrating the power of the Steel Climate Standard by proving that rigorous, independently verified climate action is not only achievable, it is accelerating. Congratulations to the Artrom team on earning this recognition.” Adina Renee Adler, Executive Director, GSCC
The newly certified product underwent third-party verification to confirm alignment with the GSCC Steel Climate Standard, a globally applicable, technology-neutral framework grounded in science-based targets and aligned with the emissions glidepath needed to support the Paris Climate Agreement’s 1.5°C scenario goal by 2050. The certification provides credible, independently verified data for customers seeking to procure low-emission steel and policymakers advancing climate-conscious industrial strategies.
“Artrom Steel Tubes is committed to producing low-carbon steel in a sustainable manner, which is the core of our strategy. We are convinced that less polluting materials, including steel, will form the basis of future market demand. Our business model is based on innovation, advanced technologies and continuous investment, while maximizing the use of recycled materials and minimizing the impact on the environment. We aim not only to reduce our carbon footprint, but also to create a positive impact on our community. Through our neutrality plan, we systematically and gradually reduce emissions over time, aiming to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and any residual emissions that cannot be eliminated will be offset by additional carbon mitigation measures.
GSCC certification provides a pragmatic, transparent and scientifically sound framework for measuring and reporting emissions. By adopting GSCC certification, we ensure that our emissions are accurately calculated, that our reduction efforts are credible, and that our products meet internationally recognized standards for low-emission steel.” Christian Drinciu, Chief Executive Officer, Artrom Steel Tubes, S.A.
With this announcement, GSCC continues to expand its global network of certified producers and products, reinforcing the worldwide applicability of the Steel Climate Standard and the growing commitment among members to climate-aligned steel procurement backed by independent verification.
