The Worldsteel Association today announced the Global Steel Climate Council (GSCC) was elected as an Associate Member of the organization. Worldsteel members represent 85% of global steel production.

“The GSCC joins a dynamic network of steel producers, trade associations and thought leaders to collaborate and drive the industry’s decarbonization efforts. We appreciate the great support of Worldsteel members to work more closely with us as we strive to help the global steel industry reduce carbon emissions while meeting demand for the steel that makes the modern world possible.” GSCC Executive Director Adina Renee Adler

Since 1967, Worldsteel serves as a collaborative epicenter for the global industry, providing a wide range of networking, technical support, and research forums that inform steel producer members and the international community about trends in the steel industry.

As a member, the GSCC will contribute to the association’s committees focused on environment and climate change while also partnering with members on implementation of the GSCC Steel Climate Standard. The Standard focuses on reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the global steel industry with a science-based glidepath to reduce emissions in line with the goal of the Paris Climate Agreement to achieve a 1.5° C scenario. The Standard offers a single, technology neutral protocol that would apply to all steel producers equally on a global basis and would enable steel customers to know and compare the actual carbon emissions associated with steel products.
