GSCC Publishes Label for Steel Climate Standard Certified Products
The Global Steel Climate Council (GSCC) published its labeling design for certified products in line with the Steel Climate Standard.
The Global Steel Climate Council (GSCC) today published its labeling design for certified products in line with the Steel Climate Standard.
The label will be used to certify facility-specific long and flat products that demonstrate an emissions intensity at or below the glidepaths established in the Standard as verified by a GSCC-approved third party. Product certifications will be granted only after the steel producer has obtained a GSCC certification for setting Science-Based Emissions Targets (SBET), thereby signalling to the market that the certified product’s emissions intensity will be annually self-audited for emissions reduction progress.
“The GSCC certified product label represent’s a steel company’s commitment to decarbonization and offering products to market that not only are low in carbon intensity but in continuous decline because of the company’s corporate-wide efforts to meet already-certified science-based emissions targets. The Steel Climate Standard’s comprehensive boundary definition yields a true accounting of steel product emissions.” Adina Renee Adler, Executive Director, GSCC
Science-based emissions targets provide a pathway for companies to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, helping to prevent the worst impacts of climate change. These targets – and the accompanied emissions intensity calculations for steel products – are considered “science-based” if they are in line with the Steel Climate Standard framework that incorporates the latest climate science necessary to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
About the Global Steel Climate Council
